In order to create a balanced day of
learning and fun, our teachers
allow each child to choose his or her particular area of interest.
We encourage imaginative play, the activity that allows children
to develop longer attention spans, independence, self confidence,
imagination, concentration and social compatibility. All of
these are crucial skills which will serve your children through
their school careers and throughout their adult lives.
The days begin easily. The staff greets children individually,
introduces them to play areas, which have been arranged for
the morning and helps them choose how to begin their day. The
children are able to play freely and use their imagination.
Such
activities throughout the day would be:
Circle
Time. A joy-filled experience and one which gives the
staff direct, hands-on time with the children, helping them
develop group social skill as they take turns talking, listening,
singing, and reading together, Circle Time lasts anywhere from
10 minutes to an hour, depending on what the children are ready
for on any particular day. Each age group has a Circle Time
which of course is adjusted for each age level.
New Project Time.
These projects are opened-ended and sometimes take several days
of intermittent attention before it plays itself out and children
participate at their own pace. The staff plans these projects
so they may be explored and developed in a variety of ways with
the belief that it is the experience of doing the project which
is of value to the child rather than the finished product. At
this time children are able to show their own creative expression
and appreciation for the arts.
Outdoor Play Time.
This happens in a fenced playground at least twice a day. Living
in Vermont we take advantage of the nice weather and spend as
much time outside as possible. Staff members encourage children
to experience both organized games as well as free play. They
also encourage the children to dress and undress themselves
for outside play, caring for their own belongings and returning
them to their cubbies when they return inside.
Meal Time.
We off nutritious and well balanced breakfast, lunch and dinners.
Served to the children as a large group and is a relaxing time
when staff and children eat and converse together informally.
We provide an afternoon snack for the children, which consist
of two food groups.
Quite Time.
occupies the early afternoon.
Free Play Time.
Outside play (weather permitting) or Indoor play, children participate
in a variety of organized and semi-organized activities being
an interactive group activity or one selected by the children
themselves either as more solitary creative play or as unstructured
social play.
